Prez's Report

Hi Vette Set Members,

First, I would like to welcome our two new members voted in this month, Eddie Lomeli and Jesus Lomeli.

I would like to thank the club officers for taking the time to get together on a Sunday afternoon to firm up our balanced budget for 2020. It took us a couple of hours and thanks to John and Linda Tully for hosting the meeting. It looks like we can afford our new club brick at the museum and now that we have our new logo, George is going to inquire with the museum to get the details on making it happen.

It’s a great time to start planning a run if you would like to host one. They really aren’t difficult to put together, just come up with a destination, plan the route, rest and eating stops, that’s about it. Then get with Jennifer to coordinate a date. If you need help or advice, there are many people that would be glad to help, just ask. Also, I would like to thank Kim Foster for putting together the clubs new logo incorporating the new C8 logo. He has worked on it for several months and it looks great. He has used the very original C1 logo utilizing the US flag on the left and the checkered flag on the right. The club voted  on whether they liked the silver or gold borders and we were evenly split, 18 for each. It was decided that members could order the border color they like and no one objected.

I truly appreciate the members that set up and take down the chairs for our monthly meetings. I know it’s a pain but thank you all very much for your efforts.

Next Generation Corvette Display Returning to NCM

If you visited the Museum during the 25th Anniversary Celebration last year, you likely got to experience the Next Generation Corvette building / display that was in their parking lot. The large structure featured some 2020 Corvettes, as well as samples of each interior color, seat options, interiors, wheels, and other customer selectable features. They have some exciting news - that same display will be available during the Michelin NCM Bash thanks to General Motors! If you haven't already, make plans to attend - April23-25, 2020.

Race Report

CORVETTE RADING AT COTA

Corvette racing decided to enter one of the new C8R corvettes in the six hours of the Circuit of The Americas (COTA). The race took place in Austin, Texas on Feb. 23, 2020. Car

# 63, the C8R, ran in the GTE Pro category with drivers Jan Magnussen and Mike Rockenfeller. Jan was replaced by Fassler for the 2020 season as a regular driver. This was the first time Rockenfeller drove the C8R and neither driver made any mistakes. That was the good news. The bad news was the Corvette ended with a 6th place finish.

Magnussen admitted there was an unfortunate issue during qualifying. Drivers admitted being down on power during the race. It appears the Balance of Performance (BOP) rules for the new Vette put the car in a less competitive position. Corvette’s fastest lap time was 1.5 seconds slower than the best car. With 170 laps, you can see why the Corvette was far behind. The Corvette would have been in last place if not for Porsche issues. Corvette made one less pit stop than any other car in the class. But to no avail.

However, the Corvette ran trouble free and the team collected a lot of good data.

The next race is Super Sebring weekend at Sebring International Raceway in Florida on March 20-21. Corvette Racing will compete in both series:

  1. Twelve Hours of Sebring for IMSA

  2. 1,000 Miles of Sebring for FIA WEC (World Endurance Championship).
